for Symantec content scanning technologies into
their proprietary applications. It provides fast,
scalable, and reliable network-based content scanning
services to protect against viruses and other unwanted
content in a single scan. These scanning technologies
are optimized for speed, scale vertically on the
same server or horizontally across multiple servers,
and are backed by Symantec’s proven response
capabilities for virus detection and repair and
consistent maintenance of filtering technologies.
Using
the Internet Content Adaptation Protocol (ICAP 1.0)
or the Symantec™ Scan Engine API and libraries,
independent software and hardware vendors and ISPs
can easily integrate proprietary and patented URL
filtering scanners and industry-leading antivirus
technologies into their server software applications
and networking hardware devices. By doing so, these
organizations can increase sales of their products
and services, gain a competitive advantage, and
enhance customer satisfaction.
By
performing lookups of the Symantec categorized URL
database, client applications such as HTTP proxies
that support ICAP 1.0 can filter out Web sites.
In addition, Dynamic Document Review (DDR) provides
an added layer of URL filtering by examining inbound
HTML content and accurately blocking content that
has not yet been categorized. The patented DDR technology
provides multi-lingual, context-sensitive heuristic
scanning and recognizes content in 12 languages.
